Captain Dan Howard graduated from Elida High School as well as the formerly known Lima Technical College with an Associate’s Degree in Law Enforcement. He was hired as a Deputy by Allen County in 1996. He was also a 2013 graduate of the Allen Lima Leadership program, and was a former member on the board of directors for Allen County Children Services.
Dan worked every shift in the Patrol Division before being assigned as an Investigator in 2007 to the West Central Ohio Crime Task Force. During Dan’s tenure with the Task Force he was involved in over 900 felony investigations, before being promoted to Sergeant within the uniform division in 2012.
Dan was later promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and re-assigned to the West Central Ohio Crime Task Force in 2017 where he served as the Task Force Commander for two years. Dan was a 19-year veteran of the Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team until he resigned from that position as the Team Commander in 2017 and promoted to the rank of captain in 2020.
