To obtain copies of traffic crash reports and criminal incident reports please be ready to provide the date and time that the incident or crash occurred, the location, and, if available, the report number.
Requests can be emailed to records@acso-oh.us. Once the request is made, a records clerk will locate the requested record then email the report to you at no cost. Reports and records can be picked up in person from the Allen County Sheriff’s Office Records Bureau anytime between 8:00am – 4:00pm, Monday through Friday. A fee for hard copy may apply.
When requesting a complaint report or traffic crash report the following information is requested:
**Effective Immediately**
Under the Ohio Revised Code ORC 149.43, law enforcement agencies are permitted to charge up to $75 per hour, with a maximum of $750, for processing public records requests involving police video footage. This includes all video requests, but is not limited to:
• Body-worn camera recordings
• Cruiser camera recordings
• Interrogation/interview footage
Estimated Time for Review and Redaction
The review and redaction process requires approximately two times the actual length of the requested footage per recording component. This preparation includes:
• Retrieval and download of video
• Review and redaction
• Consultation for legal review (if required)
• Final preparation and production of the recording
Example – One Deputy’s 30-Minute Body-Worn Camera Video:
1. 30 minutes for initial review
2. 45–90 minutes for redactions
3. 30 minutes for final review
4. 10–15 minutes for locating, saving, and downloading
5. Additional time for legal review if required
Total: 2 to 2.75 hours of processing for one 30-minute video (not including legal review).

Due to high demand, requests will be processed as quickly as possible. Please note that turnaround times may vary depending on volume. We appreciate your patience and understanding.
Advance Payment Requirement
Payment must be received before processing and release of records. You will receive your quote in the manner which you requested. Once you receive a cost estimate, payments can be made:

Important Note for Criminal Defendants
Criminal defendants seeking video records relevant to their case must request them through their attorney, via the appropriate prosecutor’s office, under Rule 16 of the Ohio Rules of Criminal Procedure.

The Records Bureau conducts local background record checks for civilians, employers, government, and military. This record will list the number of times that an individual has been arrested and booked into the Allen County Jail. It will NOT give the final disposition of the charge. That information must be obtained from the appropriate court that heard or dismissed the case.
When requesting a criminal arrest record check the following information must be provided:
Only computerized arrest records from 1986 are available. The disposition of any arrest must be found from the court that heard the case if charges were filed.
