Henry Lippincott Served as Allen County, Ohio’s first sheriff. His tenure began in 1831, ending in 1835. He was born in Westmorland, Pennsylvania approximately 1806 to Samuel and Elizabeth Lippincott. The family moved to Allen County in 1827, with Sheriff Lippincott settling in Bath Township in 1830.
The Allen County Sheriff’s Office performed their first arrest on or about October 1, 1831, arresting Uri Martin as an insane person. On that same day Allen County Commissioners tasked Sheriff Lippincott “to prepare plans for fixing some place of confinement” for Mr. Martin. Thus, the first Allen County Jail was built during Sheriff Lippincott’s term as sheriff of Allen County in 1832 as part of the first courthouse.
Sheriff Henry Lippincott married Semaramas Wood on November 6, 1831. the couple had two daughters before Sheriff Lippincott died in 1836 in Lima, Allen County, Ohio.
